What a plan is
A plan is defined by us, not chosen from a fixed list, and the Subscription screen shows the plans on sale when there are any. Each plan carries:- a price per seat per period, monthly or yearly;
- an allowance of model use per seat per period, counted at provider cost, the same figure a request would have taken from your balance;
- whether a seat may spend past its allowance (overage), and if so only up to a cap the workspace sets per seat;
- optionally, a model allow list, so a plan can cover a named set of models rather than everything on sale;
- optionally, up to four usage windows, such as a smaller amount per few hours or per few days inside the period.
What a seat is
A seat belongs to one member, of any role, and a member holds at most one seat in a workspace. The seat holder creates their own seat key, shown once like any key, and that key is the one that draws on the allowance. A seat key sits outside the five-key ceiling and cannot be revoked or limited from the Keys screen; it ends when the seat does, and reassigning the seat replaces it. A request on a seat key draws the seat’s allowance first. When the allowance is spent, the request is refused unless the plan allows overage and the workspace has set a cap for that seat, in which case the workspace balance pays up to the cap. Nothing is charged for a request that is refused, and the balance is never used in place of a window or an allowance that has run out. The refusals a seat key will see, all in the OpenAI envelope:
Each message names the Subscription screen as the place an owner or admin
changes it. The seat holder sees how much of the allowance is used and when it
resets on the Usage screen; owners and admins see every seat’s share and
overage on the Subscription screen.
Renewal, changes and cancellation
- The full allowance is granted on each paid renewal.
- A renewal that fails stops every seat on the subscription at once, and the subscription ends a day later if it stays unpaid. The screen says so and points at the card.
- Adding seats or upgrading one seat’s plan is charged now, prorated for what is left of the period, and applies once that payment clears. Downgrading a seat moves it at the next renewal and charges nothing now.
- Cancelling a seat lets it serve to the end of the period, with an undo until then. Cancelling the last seat is done by cancelling the subscription, which also runs to the end of the period.
paid_from_allowance is true,
and it does not count as workspace spend.
